Land
Matching
Local food producers need secure and affordable land tenure.
With the price of land sky-high and still rising, we need alternative solutions to private land ownership that allow young and underrepresented food producers to access land for agroecological cultivation.
Through our land matching network, land holders can invite food producers to join them on their land, and land seekers can find a patch to start a land-based business or expand existing operations. This land matching service is free for both land holders and land seekers. Please consider becoming a member to support this work.
Land matching is an entry point into land access and provides an opportunity to those without land to grow food. However, we know that land matching arrangements do not offer secure land tenure. Village Agrarians is working to explore alternative ways of supporting secure land access for agroecological food production in Aotearoa. If you would like to support this work, get in touch!
Please note that these land listings are for land holders and seekers looking to engage with commercial food production in some aspect. There are many online communities and groups available for those looking for spaces to grow food for themselves, or for folks looking for people to make land available for tiny homes, etc. This platform is to expand opportunities for local, community-scale, food production.

I'm looking for a long-term set-up for 1. trailing and bulking up seed crops for Ōtepoti Urban Organics, 2. growing food, seeds, and seedlings for my family and community, 3. demonstrating best practice gardening. Desired land is flattish, fertile, organic history, good sun and shelter, and with access to good water (not town supply). Ideally also some infrastructure like glasshouses or sheds would be fantastic.
Land has been found.
Kia ora, we're Jonathan and Tae. We're a couple of young, but experienced, market gardeners looking for land to start or take over a market garden on. We'll need access to good water, space for a small nursery, greenhouse and wash station. We are looking for land ideally closer to Kapiti Coast/top of the south, but are open to considering options elsewhere in the country.
We are land owners looking to start a no dig organic vegetable market garden, but are looking for some young people whom would like the opportunity to start and run the growing side, but maybe can't afford land.
We have become kaitiaki of land next to Kakapo Wetlands in Te Anau. We are on a hill so the land is undulating, with plenty of springs. The goal is to work toward Hua Parakore certification. We are looking to share the land with people that are either wanting to help out or would like to do their own thing and we provide space for it. The total area is 12 acres with the goals to develop: a Market Garden/Food Forest for about 20 families, farm stay accommodation, host forage and food sovereignty workshops, and rewild the remaining land.
Just over 1 acre, non cert organic, flat land that will be surrounded by natives by next winter. There is a new artesian water bore for irrigation and it will be fenced off with wind break fencing for some bunny/hare deterrent. It has been farmed by only two market gardeners in the past 10 years and the soil is pretty good, well draining loam.
Looking for some land, under an acre, in Algies Bay, Warkworth region, to work with the community and develop a sustainable vege garden. 1st year gardening under my belt, mum to bounce off, internets teaching me lot, done some market gardening courses. Ex labourer and hammerhand
We are offering the use of two 90m2 tunnel-house film roof sheds plus approximately 0.1 to 0.2 ha of outdoor growing area for a growing enterprise of the applicants own proposing. To get started the land seeker would be expected to help complete some repairs to the sheds and set the area up for growing.
Chifull Sanctuary is a beautiful healing sanctuary, which has been used as a small scale Organic market Garden for 30 years now. With two very large greenhouses, which offer prime growing, based near Nelson, the sunshine capital of NZ. We are looking for someone to take over the management of the established market garden. There is a cottage available for rent on site.
We are on a flat 10 acre site just 5km south of Hastings in the Hawkes Bay. We are running organically but are not certified. There is an established market garden onsite and loads (literally truckloads!) of organic materials available including woodchip mulch and chicken litter. We have processing facilities and shedding which can be shared. There are horses and a mix of tree / animal / garden / activities all happening on the farm. We are lacking people resource to take advantage of the opportunities. My ideal situation would be to find business partner/s to continue creating a thriving business around the farm. There is already a knowledgeable and hardworking person employed in the garden 30 hours per week, but this is not enough to keep up with the growth we are experiencing.
We have a large garden and small orchard that we need help maintaining. In exchange for approx 15-20 hrs per week (on avg), we can provide an 18 m2 furnished sleepout, plus porch and outhouse, and shared use of the main kitchen and the rest of the land. The produce grown would be in our shared meals, along with fresh eggs from the chooks. Lots of room for a bus or tiny home if that would be of interest. Also potential to use some of our land to cultivate and start an enterprise or project.
Certified organic share farming / partnership / management opportunity
We would like you to add another dimension to the farm so if you have a dream skills and energy this could fit in to our vision. We want to be flexible so it depended on what you bring to the table. You don’t have to bring another enterprise into the mix, you may just have skills that could lift what we are already doing. Very fertile flat land with irrigation, situated in a central South Island location. Mixed farm with primary production currently eggs followed by crops and livestock. Well established certified organic markets and distribution in place. Good climate and a very pretty place to live.
Collective farming is a type of agricultural production in which multiple farmers run their holdings as a joint enterprise. We currently have three farmers growing vegetables on our farm in Waiuku. One is leaving at the end of June so we have room for another. This opportunity would suit both the experienced growers and those starting out.
